Connected Hubs is a central driver of the Irish National Hub Network, a Government of Ireland initiative aimed at establishing and strategically expanding a network of interconnected Hub facilities throughout the country. Their mission is to harness the full potential of Hubs to make a significant contribution to the revitalisation of Ireland’s towns and villages through the promotion of Hub working. Part of “Our Rural Future”, Connected Hubs is managed by the Western Development Commission in conjunction with the Department of Rural and Community Development.
Connected Hubs aims to breathe new life into communities by supporting Hubs in fostering vibrant and inclusive economies. By nurturing an ecosystem where workers have the freedom to choose where they work and live, the initiative creates a positive impact on personal and family lives, reinvigorates communities, promotes economic growth, and fosters opportunities for sustainable development. With over 350 Hubs already part of the network, offering a diverse range of services and supports, the initiative aims to expand to 400 Hubs.
Another tool for supporting Hub Managers and Hub Users is the development of international links. This is where COWORKATIONERS come in. Founder Rainer Kiebat, who has a base in rural Mayo and who regularly uses Hubs in the region, is a member of “CoWorkLand”, a national network of Coworking Spaces in Germany. Stephen Carolan and his team at the National Hub Network have been building relationships with their counterparts at “CoWorkLand”. The Germans and their respective networks stand ready to build more relationships based on that foundation.
